In fact, that growth has been so significant that some economists have predicted that China’s economy will become larger than that of the United States by the year 2017, which would make it the most valuable in the world.

China has two distinct challenges, which are definedby distinct regions, when it comes to maximizing the effectiveness of its water/wastewater supply and treatment operations:

•In northern China there is a worrying lack of fresh water, so the government encourages the use of recycled water where possible in municipal and industrial applications. This makes the handling and use of “graywater” a front-of-mind topic in that part of the country. Graywater is wastewater that is generated from domestic activities such as laundry, dishwashing and bathing. This wastewater differs from that which comes from toilets, which is termed sewage or “blackwater” since it contains human waste. Most graywater is easy to treat if it is collected separately from the blackwater. In fact, domestic graywater, if handled properly, can be recycled directly within the home, garden or company and used either immediately or processed and stored. This is how the Chinese government is recommending that graywater be handled and used.

•In the southern part of the country there is more readily available water, but there is also a higher level of population growth and industrial operations. All 7000 Series pumps are self-priming and also provide superior performance when pumping chemicals such as sodium hypochlorite, which can off-gas. The 7000 Series pumps are driven by a standard Neptune gearbox and motor with explosion-proof, variable-frequency drive and wash-down duty motor options also available.

The 7000 Series mechanically actuated diaphragm metering pumps from Neptune are ideal for applications involving sodium hypochlorite found in the water and wastewater industries. There are four model families within the 7000 Series: the 7500, which has a 100-mm (4-in.) diaphragm diameter with speeds from 37-232 strokes per minute (spm); the 7600, which features a 150-mm (6-in.) diaphragm diameter and 37-232 spm; the 7700, with a 200-mm (8 in.) diaphragm diameter and 58-176 spm; and the 7800, which offers a 250-mm (10 in.) diaphragm diameter and 58-176 spm. Neptune is offering a three-year warranty on all models within its 7000 Series.
